A Void Elf Warlock who aims to master the power of the universe.

Valant has spent his entire life to the study of magic, but more specifically, breaking and dissecting different forces until he understands them fully. He's mastered the Arcane, the Fel, and now works on proving himself above the Void, never succumbing to the corruption or failure that lesser minds find themselves in.

Despite having the makings of someone who would find their end at the blades of about 10-30 adventurers, Valant believes in the power of mortalkind (or at the very least himself) and will continue to live to defy any cosmic force that dares to call itself unbreakable.

Personality

• Valant is very arrogant. Unfortunately for everyone else, he tends to be correct about his own capabilities.
• The greatest joy in Valant's life is conquering challenges. Whether it be mastering a spell said to be impossible, or defeating a monster who claims to be invincible, the thrill Valant gains from overcoming mountains is what gives him purpose in life.
• Valant's will is inconquerable. Perhaps because he is so self-assured, but none of the forces he learns about and masters manages to corrupt him for their own gain. The fel does not bring him to destruction and chaos that he does not want, the void does not bring him to ruin he does not wish. Sure, it might align occasionally, but ultimately Valant is the master of his own destiny, and he relishes in humbling anything that tries to change that.
• This is the biggest factor for anyone tolerating Valant's presence. He is a very strong force that will not kneel to evil, so you can be assured that he will work against it.
• He views any kind of weakness as a personal failure. Surrendering is a failure to use your strength of will to prove your superiority over existence itself, which is unacceptable and a waste of your capabilities. This usually reflects on others, which is why he's so rude and dismissive often, but he holds the same standards to himself. Valant believes in the power of mortalkind, so in a twisted way, he thinks you can do anything if you just put your mind to it?

Story

• Valant was born into a family full of mages; Magisters were plentiful in his family tree, so he had his path in life planned for him in advance. Luckily, Valant's incredible intellect had made him a prodigy. While the pressure from his family and studies was heavy, he thrived under it. Valant's intense enjoyment from overcoming the challenges in his path rocketed him through the ranks of Silvermoon's academies, even studying in Dalaran and excelling there. He viewed the history of the Elves and the magi themselves as proof of greatness- the ability to conquer all through strength of will. This was until the Third War, where the corruption of the Sunwell brought so many of the High Elves down, driving his people and peers to desperation. Valant was infuriated, as he became surrounded by weakness. But he wouldn't succumb to the same despair and desperation as everyone around him.
• Burning Crusade - As the Blood Elves dealt with their magic withdrawals in different ways, Valant practiced his discipline and will. He found himself growing distant from his people, as many of them, including those he respected, became defined by their addiction, or even fallen so far to become Wretched. He studied how it would affect people, and mastered it. When fel magic was introduced to the Blood Elves, Valant chose to study and dissect it to truly own the fel as he did the arcane. Between his growing disillusionment with his people and that thrill of conquering a challenge, Valant became isolated from Silvermoon's politics, but very quickly finding his new path in life with mastering fel magic. When Kael'thas and his fel corrupted forces had attacked Silvermoon and the Isle of Quel'Danas, Valant looked down on his former prince- not even he had the power to conquer the magic he brought. So when the heroes of Azeroth led their counterattack against the Legion, Valant lent his hand to prove his superiority. He found a similar thrill in taking down these almighty demonic forces as he did in mastering his study of magic.
• Legion - As the Legion invaded Azeroth again, Valant took the opportunity once more to prove his strength and master further power by taking down the demons that thought they could destroy his world. When the news spread of the failure at the Broken Shore, Valant made his way to the Broken Isles, fighting... less alongside, but more in the same area at the same time as the heroes wielding powerful artifacts. Not having his own didn't prevent him from facing off against the same powerful foes they fought. On Argus, Valant saw Alleria Windrunner take the power of the Void, and from there, saw his next path to master.
• Battle For Azeroth - Researching the Void in Silvermoon is cause for banishment, as it was a danger to the Sunwell. Valant got banished from Silvermoon. Without his home and resources, Valant had nothing to work with, but that wouldn't stop him. He joined Magister Umbric's group, though his motivations were much more selfish than most of theirs. During the fateful ritual with the puzzle box, Valant was transformed by the Void; this wasn't bad though. What better way to master the Void, and to completely dominate it, than to overpower it even from within? The problem of not having a home or resources was next. Not having much love or care at all for the Horde, Valant felt basically nothing about joining the Alliance. This did have one benefit though; during the battles against the Legion, he was familiar with the Alliance heroes that beat them back- surely they would have access to grand libraries and resources, and they would of course appreciate someone of his immense power on their side. So Valant found the guild hall, burst in announcing his joining, and he. Never left. Valant did not participate much in the actual Fourth War, but he did fight against the more world threatening forces of the Old Gods and Naga, proving to the others why he should stick around.
• The War Within - Being one of the people investigating the Radiant Song, Valant was present on Dalaran as it was moved to Khaz Algar and subsequently destroyed. He would fight the Nerubians with the other Champions on the Isle of Dorn, and eventually travel to K'aresh, where he could continue to overpower the void. He proved himself a stalwart and strangely motivating support against the Void for the others, pushing them to beat the whispers, and eventually Dimensius.
• Midnight - Obviously not summoned to the Sunwell's defense, being an abhorrent creature of the Void, Valant was with Umbric and the other Void Elves banished from Silvermoon until they were allowed in. When Winstant and Istaanu arrived in Tranquillien, he fought with them against the Twilight's Blade. After Umbric discovered the way into the Voidstorm, Valant broke into his former home of the Magister's Terrace, and joined the assault on the Voidstorm; not allowing the overwhelming power of the storm to overpower his will, especially not in front of his comrades.

Relationships

• Winstant - These two butt heads more than anyone else on the Alliance's side of the guild; perhaps because of the human's achievements, preference for brute force, irritable nature, or all of the above. Despite the constant fighting, competition, and antagonizing between the two; Valant, deep, deep, DEEP (buried way down there) down respects Winstant's strength against powerful forces.
• Istaanu - Valant is often exhausted by Istaanu's outward compassion, but he does harbor respect for his unyielding ability. He questions if Istaanu is truly in control of the Light though; is it truly merely an enhancement, or is Istaanu's will not strong enough to dominate it?
• Meyneth - Valant is often the victim of the blunt end of Meyneth's scythe, due to his chronic assholeness. However, due to her being a very uncompromising person, he actually does listen to her, and is somehow kept in check.
• Grommet - He holds very little respect for Grommet. She could not handle the Void's power so much so that it broke her, and she needs assistance to survive. However... she did manage to take charge of her own life and identity once mentally able, so maybe...?
• Toraal - This is Valant's "healthiest" relationship in the guild. Toraal is someone who managed to beat back the Lich King himself, AND the Legion. He's also not completely insufferable. He wishes the Death Knight would take more pride in this.
• Talaen - Frustrated that such a clearly powerful, dominant force is such an idiot. Valant knows how much of a feat it is to beat the demon inside, yet it drives him crazy that Talaen is all smiles, dancing around.

Other

• He tends to get very, very involved in his work. This tends to lead to him neglecting his physical health and hygiene, though through magic, some of that can be alleviated (what I'm saying is that he stinks).

Author's Notes

• Named after Valant Gramarye from Ace Attorney. There's not much inspiration beyond the name, I just liked how it sounded.
