Overview

The younger of the two Draenei brothers in the Adventurer's Guild.

Toraal's life is the definition of a tragedy; never being able to feel safety, consistency, or a true home. He has always been unable to express himself or to truly be able to follow his heart. After millenia of death and running, an opportunity arose, and Toraal could finally attain what he felt his life could be- only for it to be immediately torn away from him once again as he was killed in battle.

Now raised as a Death Knight, Toraal broke free from the Lich King, and continues to fight against any enemies of Azeroth. While his life is reaching closer to what he wanted and deserved all those years ago, the scars of the past remain, keeping self-actualization ever far away.

Personality

• Toraal is very task-focused. In life, he would see the goals he wanted to achieve, and spent all his time doing anything he could to reach them. In undeath, this trait somewhat remains, although it is less out of a drive to grow and help, and more out of a need to not look back on the pain of the past, or the pain that was installed in him by Arthas.
• Undeath has stripped Toraal of much, emotionally. Raised to be a monster, and a remorseless savage killing machine; Toraal lost his memory and feelings. Over time, after he was released from the hold of the Lich King, his past self gradually returned. Initially, he could only remember the negativity of the past millenia, the hatred, the pain. This led him to be a very bitter person for many years. In modern times, enough time has passed from his initial resurrection, as well as the fact that he's spent more time around others, that Toraal can remember the joy of life once again. Despite this, he does not show it, and appears aloof.

Story

• Born on Argus, Toraal was a toddler when he left the planet with his older brother. In his younger years, he was very brash, wanting to fight against the Legion as they kept taking his people's homes away, but Istaanu refused to let his brother put himself in that much danger. Eventually, to fill his need and want to help his people, and to fight, he turned his attention to jewelcrafting and crystalsmithing; allowing him to assert his want in a way that would satisfy him (for the most part) and to not cause his brother's anxiety to flare up. He would still train to keep himself physically healthy and fit.
• Burning Crusade - After the crash of the Exodar, Toraal had enough with staying in the backlines, and insisted on picking up a hammer, and fighting alongside his brother. He helped carve a home for the Draenei on Azuremyst and Bloodmyst, proving that he is able to fend for himself and others. As Istaanu would head through the Dark Portal to finish the fight against the Legion, Toraal would hang back on Azeroth. He eventually found his way to the Argent Dawn, joining their ranks. However, he would be killed in a battle against the Scourge.
• Wrath of the Lich King - Resurrected as a Death Knight of Acherus by the Lich King, Toraal razed the Scarlet Crusade city of New Avalon, and assaulted Light's Hope Chapel. Like most death knights present, he was able to regain control of himself after the battle, and was sent to Stormwind to represent the newly formed Knights of the Ebon Blade. While technically allied with the Alliance, most of his time spent in the war against the Scourge was spent with the other Knights of the Ebon Blade. His brother would attempt a tearful reunion, but Toraal saw nothing but the man who held him back all his life, and denied him.
• Cataclysm - With Arthas dead, Toraal was left without a grand goal. Istaanu attempted to convince him to join the Adventurer's Guild, but Toraal initially refused, still filled with bitter feelings. He would travel across the world, taking care of threats from town to town. Eventually, he found himself fighting alongside his brother and other comrades as the war against Deathwing and the Twilight's Hammer came to a climax, helping to retrieve the Dragon Soul and end Deathwing permanently.
• In current times, after years of undeath but fighting on the side of good, he has managed to break many of the chains being raised put on his soul. He’s still not exactly pleasant to be around, but most of the negative emotions and anger around allies have subdued.

Relationships

• Istaanu - In life, he was always very annoyed by the constant vigil of his brother, but ultimately still greatly cared for and appreciated him. After revival, no emotions save for all of the anger remained, which turned into a form of hatred and rejection. Years of fighting together, and breaking the hold undeath had on him, has led to a more positive relationship. Toraal at a minimum tolerates his brother, and understands his feelings.

Other

• As he never sleeps, he is Literally constantly doing something. When there are no menial tasks to be done or things to kill, he occupies his time by playing JewelCraft.

Author's Notes

• Toraal is my longest surviving Alliance character. I originally played him as a monk, but changed him to a Death Knight at the proper level. While usually I like to keep real life in their continuity, me playing him in MoP Remix as a Warrior makes me think that's what he would be if he never died.
• In a way, Toraal is kind of an amalgamation of my childhood characters on the family's account. I had a Draenei Hunter that looked exactly like him, and a Night Elf Death Knight.
