Overview

My character in Final Fantasy XI.

A Mithra with a heart full of curiosity and wonder for the world, she was literally made to be an adventurer in a world as vast as Vana'diel. She'll go everywhere she can, asking and learning about the people, jobs, monsters, and ruins that she sees, most likely taking down a world-destroying villain or five along the way, and collecting every experience possible.

She might take a long, winding road there, but Rihyeh's name is destined to be written into the annals of history.

Personality

• Rihyeh is filled with insatiable curiosity. She gets extremely interested in nearly anything that catches her eye, and puts her all into learning about whatever or whoever it might be. As everything is interesting, she tends to bounce between interests frequently.
• She is CONSTANTLY asking questions. Anyone she interacts with is bombarded with inquiries, no matter who they are, including villains trying to destroy the world.
• Rihyeh has a very good memory. Her in the moment recall tends to be weakened by her excitable energy, but when something needs to be remembered, she's quite proficient in the details.
• She gets frustrated with people that refuse to learn or be open to changing their ways at all. All they have to do is try and understand things, like she does, and they don't even want to?!
• Though dangerous people and forbidden paths often tempt her curiosity, Rihyeh ultimately values the world's possibilities far too much to support anything that would destroy or diminish them.

Story

• Born very soon before the ending of the Crystal War, Rihyeh's parents were killed in attacks on the city. Her mother was a Cobra Mercenary, so her friends were Rihyeh's primary guardians; though they say it takes a village to raise a child, and Windurst as a whole certainly put in the work for Rihyeh. The entire world was full of wonders, which she explored with asking everyone about everything- what they were doing, how they were doing it, who are they, where did they come from, where did she come from, can she do what you're doing, why not, and so on and on and on and on. In a way, it was heartwarming to see a soul untouched by the horrors of the war; that a child could be so full of wonder in a world that's lost so much. On the other hand, the girl's energy was a lot, which is difficult on a daily basis.
• Growing up, Rihyeh gradually became more of an assistant to the city. She had the curiosity to talk to everyone, she had the knowledge of the city to know where things were, and everyone knew who she was, so her eagerness would be used for the better. As she got older, these quests began to take her out of the city's walls, which of course Rihyeh absolutely ate up. She picked up plenty of self-defense, combat, and magic knowledge from her guardians, she was already incredibly good at talking to others (and following them around); Rihyeh became an adventurer before she ever even realized it. Eventually, she'd find herself working more official missions for the Federation.

Relationships

• Lion - The first adventurer Rihyeh ever made friends with. She loved that Lion showed her to places she might have never seen in Vana'diel, but was really upset that Lion was never able to keep her promise to travel the world. She was inspired to try out stealth and daggers by the pirate.
• Zeid - Rihyeh finds Zeid absolutely FASCINATING. He's got a cool sword, scary magic, and he killed the Shadow Lord??? Their conversations end up being very one way, but she gets the info she wants eventually. She wasn't quite able to get the handle of his teachings until further in her journey.
• Aldo - He's just as mysterious as Zeid, but doesn't really give her anything she wants to know. She finds him kinda boring, but at the same time, suave and heroic. Aldo is often her frame of reference of what to do in situations that require a hero with main protagonist energy.
• Semih Lafihna - Both orphans from the Crystal War who've lived vastly different lives. Through following Semih, Rihyeh's gotten to not only see the upper sectors of the Federation, but learn about parts of Mithra tradition and history (even if it wasn't glamourous). She gets really into archery after dealing with the guard.
• Ajido-Marujido - A very strange duo, but surprisingly on the same page. Following the minister lets her see forbidden magics and ruins, he answers the questions she has, and they both get to save their home together. Not only does he inspire her to practice magic, but Ajido-Marujido also started her on the path to learning summoning; with the two of them discovering the truth behind Karaha-Baruha and Fenrir.
• Shantotto - All Windurstian children grow up to fear the doctor, and ultimately, Rihyeh does harbor that same chill in her spine. However, her curiosity and want for knowledge manages to overpower that fear, which lets her stomach a closer distance than most could handle. Shantotto is, ultimately, probably the best possible source of learning any kind of magic. It's just getting close enough, for long enough, and being safe enough to manage to get anything is the problem.
• Cid - She absolutely adores Cid. He's got so many cool inventions, he knows a whole bunch of stuff about how the world works, and he's just always there with a smile for her and her friends. Cid feels like a family member outside of Windurst itself. She usually gets really into crafting after a trip to the Metalworks, but this never stays for long.
• Prishe - One of her closest friends. Together, they become an unstoppable juggernaut, charging in on whims of curiosity and impulsivity. Rihyeh is inspired by Prishe's belief in humanity's ability, but absolutely hates that she keeps trying to sacrifice herself. She tries out unarmed combat to pull off some of the moves that Prishe does.
• Ulmia - One of her closest friends. Ulmia and Rihyeh's curiosity often overlaps, and for that, they get along. Ulmia's softer nature can keep Rihyeh (relatively) grounded when needed. She was inspired to try singing and playing music in battle from watching her.
• Tenzen - Though she gets a little frustrated at his stuffiness and unyielding single-minded pursuit, Rihyeh respects Tenzen's just heart. It also helps that his armor is so different and he comes from the Far East and his sword has a terrestrial avatar in it and that she wants to know every single bit of history that surrounds him! He was one of the people that drove her to master swordsmanship skills, and she might even travel to the Far East one day.
• Nashmeira (Aphmau) - One of the incredibly few pleasant people to be around during her time in Aht Urhgan, Rihyeh and Nashmeira are very close friends. Her life is full of mystery that Rihyeh wants to know, but she has an honest soul and a genuine want for good that makes the Puppetmaster someone Rihyeh actually WANTS to follow and help. The two feel similarly stifled in Aht Urhgan, and the two will break that together. Also, learning to work with Automatons is even more alluring (than it already was!) after seeing Ovjang and Mnejing.
• Naja Salaheem - What started as a simple following of whims with a person that was kinda mean but gave a fun adventure became an eternal, not fully thought through curse. Dealing with unpredictable anger that punishes every instinct in Rihyeh's body, being a mercenary under this contract is literal torture. Despite the fear though, something about watching the president makes swinging around a mace look very alluring.
• Lilisette - Her best friend. Lilisette was already fascinating on first impression, but as the two formed the duo of Future Fabulous, they were shown to be on nearly identical wavelengths. When Lilisette left for the alternate timeline, and as everyone forgot her, it really devastated Rihyeh that the closest person she's ever met was forever out of reach, only existing in her memory. No matter what Rihyeh ends up doing, dancing will always be at least a small part of it.

Other

• It could be said that her endless curiosity and want to follow others is a representation of the Mithra's curse of envy. Everyone has knowledge that she wants too.

Author's Notes

• Her personality of bouncing between interests and trying everything she sees out was based off of my inability to pick a job in the game initially. But as I started to expand on her page, I felt like leaning harder into that base of curiosity was more satisfying than simply "ooh squirrel". Girl 1000% has ADHD though (same).
